ST. JOSEPH, MO.— Boehringer Ingelheim, Vetmedica Inc. introduces Sedivet, a new injectable equine sedative and pre-anesthesia.

Sedivet 1.0 Injection (romifidine hydrochloride) is labeled and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a sedative and analgesic to facilitate handling, clinical examinations, clinical procedures and minor surgical procedures in adult horses, the company adds.

Sedivet is also labeled as a preanesthetic prior to the induction of general anesthesia in adult horses.

Clinical procedures in adult horses that can be carried out using sedation or a combination of local anesthesia and sedation include dentistry, joint injection, laceration repair and diagnostic procedures, the company adds.

Sedivet allows veterinarians to carry out procedures without unnecessary long recovery times.

Sedivet is an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, and has some advantages not shown in products in the same class of drugs, the company says.
