There are excellent guidelines that the International Renal Interest Society (IRIS) developed based on what stage of kidney disease the patient is diagnosed with, and these stages are based off of tests such as creatinine and SDMA. Recommended kidney disease treatment depends on the stage, as well as other various parameters, such as how high their phosphorous level is or if they are hypertensive or not. But the hallmarks of treating kidney disease in pets is dietary management along with access to fresh water on a regular basis.
