Andi Flory, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology), chief medical officer of PetDx, discusses what makes the oncology speciality unique in veterinary practice, during an interview with dvm360®. Flory is a 2022 Veterinary Heroes™ honoree for oncology, and was recognized during an awards dinner at the Fetch dvm360® Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, with recipients in various areas of expertise throughout the veterinary industry.

Andi Flory, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology): We develop such an immediate and intense bond with families. I think all veterinarians do. And, a lot of veterinarians, they know a family from the beginning of [a pet's] life all the way to the end of their life. And a lot of times, [veterinary oncologists are} coming in there at this really intense and really heavy moment and then we get to, kind of, tell them that there are options and help them understand what they can do, and provide them a little bit of hope at a really dark time.
