A virus-infected bird was discovered May 1 in the city. Virginiahas recorded two infected birds already this year. Maryland has had no reportsyet.

A drought earlier this spring kept local insects at bay inWashington, but mosquitoes are adept at thriving in dry conditions where waterstagnates.
