In this dvm360® interview, Dr Laila Proença, attributes her strong-willed nature in her career and life to her mother and grandmother paving the way

According to Laila Proença, DVM, PhD, MV, MSc, DACZM, CEO and founder of VetAhead, her mother and grandmother were ahead of their times. In this dvm360® interview, she recounts inspiring tales of her grandmother pursuing a career even when she was advised against it, plus how her mother worked her whole life despite receiving backlash for not being a stay-at-home mom.

The following is a partial transcript of the video.

Laila Proença, DVM, PhD, MV, MSc, DACZM: [My grandmother] wanted to be a teacher, right? But she knew my grandfather would never allow it. And my grandfather [was] a wonderful man. But at that time, [that's] the way the culture was. And so in knowing that, across the street from their house, was the school her kids went to, my father included. And she saw there was an opening to be a teacher. So she went to the school, applied, got the position, started working for 2 weeks, without my grandfather knowing, and she still kept everything in the house running.
