This included honoring her late husband who was originally supposed to accompany her on the journey while proving to herself she can overcome this challenging feat independently.

Betsy Charles, DVM, MA: I thought, I'm going to [partake in 29029 Everesting]. I'm going to do this to honor [my late husband,] Drake. And I'm going to do it because I want to prove to myself that I can do hard things on my own...Drake and I started dating when we were in high school. He was my high school sweetheart [and] we were married for 27 years, and...even though I feel old, I'm still relatively young. And so I [had] to learn how [to] live in this new normal, be a new Betsy, and I thought what a great way to honor Drake.
