AVMA Delegates vote in president-elect, vice president, others

New Orleans -- The House of Delegates voted Dr. Larry R. Corry the 2008 president-elect of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) during the group's annual convention in July.

Dr. Larry R. Corry

as 2008 president-elect of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) during the group's recent conference.

Corry, of Buford, Ga., pledges to focus on two goals: helping veterinary schools prepare the next generation of veterinarians and improving the AVMA's voice in state and federal legislation by increasing advocacy efforts and fund raising.

Delegates also elected Dr. Gary S. Brown AVMA vice president.

Both ran unopposed.

The following also were elected to fill vacancies on AVMA councils:

-- Daniel LaFontaine, House Advisory Committee representing federal or state government salaried veterinarians; three-year term.

-- Richard J. Forfa, Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents, representing private clinical practice, predominately equine; six-year term.

-- Edward J. Javorka, Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents, representing private clinical practice, predominately small-animal; six-year term.

-- Elizabeth Charles, Council on Communications, representing private practice, predominately equine; six-year term.

-- Natalie Marks, Council on Communications, at-large (temporarily reclassified from private practice, predominately food animal); unexpired term ending 2012.

-- Jayne E. Jensen, Council on Education, representing private small-animal clinical practice; six-year term.

-- Margaret Root Kustritz, Council on Education, representing small-animal clinical science; six-year term.

-- D. Glen Esplin, Council on Education, representing non-private practice, non-academic veterinary medicine; unexpired term ending in 2009.

-- Bonnie J. Buntain, Council on Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine, at-large; six-year term.

-- Alicia D. Anderson, Council on Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine, representing public health agencies or the Armed Forces; six-year term.

-- Kevin M. Lewis, Council on Research, representing veterinary medical research; six-year term.

-- Kent Lloyd, Council on Research, representing veterinary medical research, six-year term.-- John C. Davis, Council on Veterinary Services, at-large (temporarily reclassified from private mixed practice, predominantly food-animal or equine and private practice, exclusively equine); six-year term.

-- John Howe, Council on Veterinary Services, at-large (temporarily reclassified from private mixed practice, predominantly food-animal or equine and private practice, exclusively equine); six-year term.

-- Donald L. Noah, Judicial Council, at-large; six-year term.

-- David Beauchamp, Judicial Council, at-large; unexpired term ending in 2011.Meanwhile, the AVMA Executive Board elected David McCrystle, District X representative from California, as board chairman, replacing Corry, and Douglas G. Aspros vice chairman, replacing Larry Kornegay, who is running for 2009 AVMA president-elect.
