AVMA endorses military working dog monument
Washington - The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) threw its support to the construction of a new national monument that will recognize the contributions made by military working dogs to our nation's security.
WASHINGTON — The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) threw its support to the construction of a new national monument that will recognize the contributions made by military working dogs to our nation's security.
The AVMA Executive Board endorsed the Military Working Dog Teams National Monument at a recent meeting. The monument will be located on a 5,000-square-foot lot on the ground of the new national Museum of the United States Army in Fort Belvoir, Va., 25 minutes from the nation's capitol. The National Monument for Military Working Dog Teams is overseeing the project, slated to open in Fall 2013. The project has been in the works since October 2009.
The monument will portray a military dog handler with the four primary working dog breeds used in military operations—a Doberman Pinscher, a German Shepherd, a Labrador Retriever and a Belgian Malinois.
