Signalment

Coco is a 10-year-old spayed female Cockapoo.

History

Her owners have brought her in because she "just hasn't seemed herself for the last two days." She is not eating her senior premium diet dog food well despite attempts to coax her with her favorite food-prime rib. She has also urinated on the ("very expensive") new living room rug twice and is asking to go outside more often-a problem because the owners live in a high-rise condominium.

Upon further questioning, Coco's owners think that her water intake is normal, but another dog lives in the house so they aren't sure. Coco has not had vomiting or diarrhea, and she is not currently receiving any medications. Her owners mention that she has received antibiotics once in awhile to treat hot spots she tends to get while at their summer home. Coco last received antibiotics about a month ago, but her owners don't know what type.

Physical examination findings

• T - 100.3, P - 80, RR - 45

• Quiet, alert, and responsive; wags her tail but not as peppy as she usually is; gums are pink, slightly tacky

• Heart and lungs normal

• Abdomen-slightly tense; she seems to exhibit pain on palpation of her bladder, which is small and turgid

• Rest of examination results are unremarkable
