OKEMOS, MICH. — Karlene Belyea, executive director of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), was named 2008 Executive of the Year.
The national award, given by the American Society of Veterinary Medical Association Executives, recognizes top executives who "exemplify the best in association management, continually bringing credit to the profession and the entire association community."

Belyea, who took the helm in November 2003, developed a new image for the MVMA through a progressive branding campaign revitalizing all communications and promotional materials, and the organization's Web site.
Under her leadership, membership increased from 1,647 to 2,150, and she created a student membership category, recruiting more than 250 student members.
