Kansas recently passed a law that's designed to help bring students to large animal practice. It establishes the Veterinary Training Program for Rural Kansas at Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, which supports five students each year. Each student will receive $20,000 a year for up to four years to cover tuition and training expenses. In turn, students will practice veterinary medicine full-time in any county in Kansas that has a population of 35,000 or less. For each $20,000 the student receives, he or she will need to work a year.
