Allowing employees to take short Internet breaks helps them reduce stress and think more clearly.
As anyone with a Facebook profile understands, it's easy to waste time on the Internet. But one study shows that allowing employees to goof off online for a few minutes can actually boost productivity. A Goldsmiths University psychologist studied British businesses and found that taking a 10-minute break to surf the Internet reduces stress and sharpens the mind. So while it's a good idea to have a written Internet usage policy on file, don't fret if you see a team member searching for online bargains. You may actually see a more motivated worker when she logs off.
