RALEIGH, N.C. - 11/16/05 - North Carolina State University received a donation of $24.2 million from the R.B. Terry Charitable Foundation to establish the Randall B. Terry Jr. Companion Animal Medical Center.

The hospital will cost approximately $40 million to complete, but the donation will go a long way, says David Green, director of public relations at college of veterinary medicine.

The hospital is predicted to open in 2009, with ground breaking in 2007."The school has outgrown the old facility, and must limit the number of patients it can see," Green says.

Once the new facility is operational, the current hospital will be used to care for healthy animals, focusing on different types of clinics and wellness programs in preventative medicine. The new facility is slated to be used for treating ill animals by referral only.

The center will be named for the late High Point businessman and philanthropist who donated the gift; which was one of the largest gifts the university received.
