New public health credential for AVMA staff member; ACVPM credential for another

Schaumburg, Ill. -- Two AVMA staff veterinarians recently earned new educational credentials, including a newly created certification in public health.

-- Two AVMA staff veterinarians recently earned new educational credentials, including a newly created certification in public health.

Dr. Christine Nguyen Hoang, assistant director overseeing public health, zoonoses and food safety for the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is one of the first in the country to earn the charter public health credential, which was introduced in 2008 to set new standards for public health medicine.

Dr. Heather Case, AVMA coordinator for emergency preparedness and response, became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (ACVPM).

Case received her DVM in 1998 from the University of Minnesota and earned a master's of public health in 2006.

Hoang earned her DVM in 2007 from the University of Minnesota and her master of public health in 2008.
