Schaumburg, Ill.
-- The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Executive Board approved a new provision in November that will allow some AVMA members to qualify for reduced membership fees in 2010.
Beginning Jan, 1, 2010, members in good standing may apply for up to a 50 percent reduction in their dues if they are temporarily leaving the practice of veterinary medicine because of family obligations, are not engaged in regular employment in the veterinary profession or do not qualify for other AVMA dues waiver or reduction options.
The reduction may not be granted for more than five years and is aimed at strengthening member retention.
