These days, clients consider their pets to be prominent members of the family. When a pet passes on, help your clients pay tribute to their four-legged friends with these heartfelt commemorations.
Trees for pets
"When you celebrate the life of a pet, it helps the client grieve the loss more completely," says Megan Ehlers, DVM, of Nebraska Animal Medical Center in Lincoln, Neb., whose clinic donates $5 to the Arbor Day Foundation's Trees for Pets program for every deceased pet at their practice. “At the end of each week, we e-mail a list of addresses and the Arbor Day Foundation does the rest,” says Dr. Ehlers. “A card is sent to each client stating that a tree has been planted in their pet’s honor in one of America’s national forests.”
So far, the earth-friendly program has made a big impact on the clinic. “Even though the client can’t see the tree, they have a peaceful image of a beautiful place where the bond they had with their pet will forever be preserved,” says Dr. Ehlers.
