A roundup of recent data shows that ‘tis the season to make pets jolly. According to the Times Herald-Record, Americans will spend $52.87 billion on pets in 2012, up almost $2 billion from last year.

Pet spending appears to be recession-proof-more than half of American pet owners will buy gifts for their pets this holiday season, according to a new AP-Petside.com poll. Pet owners will spend an average of $46, with toys and treats topping the list.
