- The first research foundation dedicated to veterinary pharmacology has been created through start-up funds from the American Academy of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (AAVPT).
The Veterinary Pharmacology Research Foundation will provide grants to research new and already approved medications for companion and food animals and training programs for veterinarians.
AAVPT's initial $10,000 investment provided start-up funds, and the group also pledged 10 percent of its cash reserves over the next five years to the foundation. Additional funding is expected from related associations, veterinarians and pharmaceutical companies.
The foundation's board members are: Dr. Jane Owens, president; Dr. Dan Gingerich, secretary/treasurer; Dr. Anthony Lucas, board member; Dr. Mark Papich, board member; and Dr. Joe Gloyd, board member.
Those wishing to support the foundation can e-mail Gingerich at dgingerich@imulan.com.
