Sandy Taylor, DVM, PhD, DACVIM-LAIM: I think that an important thing is for veterinarians to be performing routine examinations on horses. That sounds so obvious and silly, but there are some things that could otherwise go undetected by an owner. So, for example, if we hear a heart murmur or an irregular rhythm when we're listening to a horse's heart, then that might trigger us to do more diagnostic investigation, and maybe we would find something that is worrisome.
