Due to potential contamination with Salmonella, several cases of Ground Turkey Pet Food and bags of Beefy Munchies have been recalled.
Approximately 4000 lbs of Raws for Paws Ground Turkey Pet Food have been recalled due to potential contamination with Salmonella.
Smokehouse Pet Products has also issued a recall due to potential contamination with Salmonella of its Beefy Munchies dog treats.
Pet owners who have handled the affected products are considered to be at risk for Salmonella infection and should seek medical help if they develop symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, watery or bloody diarrhea, fever, and headache. Similarly, veterinary care should be sought for pets that show any of these signs. All contaminated materials should be washed thoroughly.
To date, no illness has been reported with regard to the recalled Smokehouse Pet Products dog treats, but 2 illnesses have been reported in connection with Raws for Paws’ recalled products.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health, 2 children from a single household became sick from Salmonella, and after further testing, the same Salmonella strain found in the children was found in 4 samples of the recalled pet food, which was given to their pet dog.
The Raws for Paws pet food products were packaged in both 5 lb and 1 lb sealed plastic tubes, also known as chubs, and distributed throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, either directly to consumers or through online mail orders.
The chubs were packaged in both regular cases of the company’s Ground Turkey Pet Food and the company’s Pet Food Combo Pack cases, which contain a variety of pet food products.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture discovered the presences of Salmonella in some of the Ground Turkey Pet Food packages while conducting testing. Production of this product has since been suspended while the investigation and testing continue.
