High levels of beef thyroid hormone can cause dogs to exhibit symptoms such as increased thirst, urination, and heart rate, along with weight loss and restlessness. Symptoms may cease if consumption of foods with beef thyroid hormone stops, but prolonged consumption may increase the severity of symptoms. More severe symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, and rapid or labored breathing.

Pet owners should contact their veterinarian if their dog is showing symptoms associated with high levels of beef thyroid hormone.

Consumers should call 1-888-569-6767 to receive a refund or coupon for a replacement product, or if they have further questions.

Earlier this year, dog food varieties from 3 other brands manufactured by the J.M. Smucker Company—Gravy Train, Kibbles ‘n Bits, and Skippy were voluntarily recalled after traces of pentobarbital were found in the products.
