Sonja Olson, DVM: I think we've become much more aware of this phrase 'compassion fatigue.' And I know for myself when I first heard it, I was like, that doesn't quite sound right. My compassion is not fatigued, I'm fatigued, I still have my compassion . . . because the thing with compassion is that compassion does not fatigue, it is the caregiving that we give that we feel called to because of our deep compassion that fatigues.
