Texas A&M Dean Eleanor Green appointed as AAVMC president

President-elect, board members also named at veterinary college association's annual conference.

Eleanor M. Green, DVM, DACVIM, DABVP, dean of Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine Biomedical Sciences, has started her term as president of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC).

Following her appointment as president-elect in 2014, Green started her duties at AAVMC's annual meeting in Boston. “We're fortunate to have so many talented and dedicated educators working in our member institutions and I look forward to working closely with them as we continue our efforts to create opportunity and progress in veterinary medicine,” Green says in a university release.

Green (left) receives the gavel from immediate former AAVMC president Dr. Trevor Ames (right).Green graduated from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and is a diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). Her résumé incudes serving as the president of the ABVP, the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians (AAVC).

Douglas Freeman, DVM, MS, PhD, DACT, dean of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, was appointed AAVMC president-elect.

New elected board members for the 2015-2016 year are:

> Alistair Cribb, DVM, PhD, dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary, at-large director representing Canadian Colleges

> Madison Herrick, DVM student, Western University of Health Sciences, at-large, SCAVMA liaison

> Dr. Mark Markel, dean of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, treasurer

> Dr. Jean Sander, dean of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, secretary.

The year's remaining board members are:

> Dr. Trevor Ames, dean of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, immediate past-president

> Dr. Michael Lairmore, dean of the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, at-large director, representing U.S. colleges

> Dr. David Argyle, head, Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh, at-large director representing international colleges

> Dr. Sandra Bushmich, professor of pathology and veterinary science, University of Connecticut, at-large Director representing departments of veterinary science

> Dr. Robert Dysko, professor of Laboratory Animal Medicine, University of Michigan College of Medicine, at-large director representing departments of comparative medicine

> Dr. James P. Thompson, dean, University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, at-large, representative of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU)

> AAVMC Executive Director Dr. Andrew T. Maccabe, non-voting member of the board.
