Two tips for allocating treats

Article

Providing appropriate treats for pets doesn't have to be tricky.

One way to help clients comply with an appropriate amount of treats is to suggest a treat jar, which can be especially effective in a multi-person household. Instruct clients to fill the jar with the number of treats allocated for the pet that day. When the jar is empty, that's the end of the treats for the day.

The owners of pets that have systemic disease often are concerned about what they can use as treats. If the animal is required to eat a therapeutic diet, the client can use the canned version of the diet to bake "cookies" by cutting the food into slices and baking the slices at 250 degrees for one hour or until crispy. Also, treats of baby carrots and green beans can be given in most of these situations.
