Schaumburg, Ill. - 2/28/08 - The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) plans to install two new members to the Executive Board in July during the group's New Orleans convention.

Dr. Larry G. Dee, of Hollywood, Fla., was elected at press time to represent District IV (Florida, Georgia and Puerto Rico). Thomas F. Meyer, of Vancouver, Wash., will represent District XI (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming).

Both candidates ran unchallenged for the seats, which include terms that expire in 2014.

Dee, who succeeds Dr. Larry Corry, is a co-owner of a companion-animal hospital. He is a 1969 graduate of Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine and has been an adjunct faculty member in the University of Florida Department of Medical Sciences since 1983. He serves as alternate delegate for Florida to the AVMA House of Delegates and is a former president of the American Animal Hospital Association and immediate past president of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association.

Meyer and his veterinarian wife co-own a mixed-animal practice. He established the animal hospital in 1979, a year after graduating from the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Meyer chaired the AVMA House Advisory Committee from 2002 to 2003, and served from 1999 to 2007. He has been a House of Delegates member since 1995, and is a former president of the Washington State Veterinary Medial Association.
