How one hospital design winner surprised his family with the big news.
Really, it was the best Christmas present I've ever had. In November, the Veterinary Economics editors sent me a letter explaining that my hospital, Atascocita Animal Hospital in Humble, Texas, won the 2007 Hospital of the Year Award in their annual Hospital Design Competition. Most people probably would've told their family right away, but I wanted to make it special. So I took the letter and sealed it in a new envelope and put it under the Christmas tree.
To: Warren and Jan (my wife)
From: Santa
My entire family was home for Christmas: my son, daughter, mom, and nephew. The letter was the last gift under the tree and my wife opened it and read it out loud. Everyone was surprised and overjoyed with the news. It was so much fun to let my family in on the secret and share the news with them in an unexpected way.
