Whistle where you work

Article

Afraid to report workplace violations in the veterinary clinic? Don't be.

Whistleblowers can be targets of workplace anger, but there is good news. "Whistleblower protection prevents your employer from firing you if you report workplace violations, so that makes reporting a bit safer," says Sheila Grosdidier, BS, RVT, a partner and consultant with VMC Inc. And remember, when you have concerns, finding neutral territory to discuss your issues sometimes pays off. Grosdidier has consulted with employees who brought concerns to their employers, such as a time clock that logged team members' time later than it was supposed to. "The employee and employer worked together, and they managed to fix the issue," she says. "Sometimes there are educational opportunities on both sides."
