You guys, positivity starts with your underwear

Your underwear theme could be the cue to spark creativity and positivity in your veterinary practice.

Consider this discreet team-building tip from Shawn Finch, DVM:

At the practice I work at we dedicated a small corner of the white board to a “Positivity Corner.” Team members could add to the list of random things that make us happy. They're mostly work related, but anything is good.

Positivity starts with what's underneath. (Photos courtesy of Shawn Finch, DVM)Every morning, a team member volunteered a (ahem) verbal description of their underwear pattern, and we used that description to design the border of the Positivity Corner.

You had underoos as a kid, right? We were all so amused with ourselves. And I truly believe that as valuable as a positive outlook is, the real reason the Positivity Corner survived so long is because we just thought we were hilarious.

As the list grows, your smiles will too!Sometimes the mortality and morbidity inherent in our veterinary career needs to be balanced with a positive outlook, and sometimes getting through the day takes a little bit more.

Dr. Shawn Finch grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and received her veterinary degree from Iowa State in 1998. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and of the Nebraska Academy of Veterinary Medicine.
