For the fifth consecutive year, Merck Animal Health, Purina, and Zoetis are collaborating through the Diabetes PetCare Alliance to provide educational materials and diagnostic tools about diabetes mellitus—a disease that affects an estimated 1 in 230 cats and 1 in 300 dogs— for participating veterinary practices and pet owners.

In addition to awareness and screening tools, the Diabetes PetCare Alliance will provide a free disease management kit from participating clinics for each client whose pet is diagnosed during the program period. Each kit will include:

  • One AlphaTRAK 2 Blood Glucose Monitoring System from Zoetis
  • One 6-pound bag of Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets DM Dietetic Management Feline Formula for cats or Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastroenteric Fiber Balance Dry Formula for dogs
  • One 10-mL vial of Vetsulin (porcine insulin zinc suspension) from Merck Animal Health

Last year, 535 diabetes cases were diagnosed through the program. To learn more or enroll your practice in the program, visit usa.petdiabetesmonth.com. Enrollment is open through October 31.
