In fact, it is the theme of its newest public relations campaign in conjunctionwith April's heartworm awareness month.

The company reports that the goal of the initiative, "Be a HeartGuardian" is to raise awareness on the importance of heartworm prevention.The consumer-directed public relations campaign was created to reach petowners across the country about the importance of heartworm prevention.A key message in the campaign also includes the important role veterinariansplay in helping keep pets and families safe from zoonotic diseases, Merialsays.

The company will make media materials available for veterinarians inthe form of a "media CD," which includes matte press releasesthat can be customized to each veterinarian or clinic.
