American Kennel Club announces most popular dog names of 2022

Ahead of The American Kennel Club’s (AKC) Meet the Breeds event in New York City, New York, it released the list of most popular dog names in 2022. The findings were based on AKC registration statistics and Canine Partners enrollment. According to the AKC, the most popular female dog name was Luna and the most popular male name was Max.

Female:

3. Daisy
4. Lucy
5. Willow
6. Penny
7. Sadie
8. Maggie
9. Rosie
10. Ruby

Male:

1. Max
2. Milo
3. Cooper
4. Charlie
5. Teddy
6. Tucker
7. Buddy
8. Bear
9. Rocky
10. Leo

"Dogs are an important part of our families, and people take great care in choosing a name," said Gina DiNardo, AKC executive secretary, in an organizational release.¹ "It's fun to see if a dog's personality is reflected in its name."

Along with the top 10 dog names, the AKC disclosed that the 2 names at the bottom of the list was Zola for girls and Willie for boys.
