PHOENIX, ARIZ. — Veterinary services may soon be hit with a 6 percent retail tax.

House Bill 2820, introduced Feb. 7, not only proposes raising the state's retail tax from 5 percent to 6 percent—it also adds a number of new services that would fall under the tax, including veterinary services.

The proposed legislation also calls for service taxes for healthcare, legal, architectural, accounting and pet grooming.

Efforts to tax veterinary services in other states have recently failed, but the bill moved to a second reading in the Arizona House of Representatives on Feb. 9.
