The Minnesota-based pharmaceutical company will award a total of $15,000 to 5 Texas Tech veterinary students part of the inaugural class.
In honor of the first-ever veterinary class at the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo, Texas (SVM), Aurora Pharmaceuticals has extended its support by establishing the brand-new Texas Tech Inaugural Class Scholarship, gifting a total of $15,000 to SVM students in the inaugural class.
“When you start a new school, everything starts new, including scholarship resources,” said Britt Conklin, DVM, associate dean for clinical programs at the School of Veterinary Medicine, in an organizational release.
“We are thrilled Aurora was an early partner that understood our mission and is offering a program that will be transformational to the success of the school and the student recipients," continued Conklin.
According to the release, the scholarship will provide 4 students each with $2,500 and 1 student with $5,000. To qualify, applicants must be first-year veterinary students at Texas Tech. In addition, recipients will be selected by the Aurora team based on a combination of academic achievement, community and university involvement, goals, related work experience, letters of reference, and an essay.
The program further propels SVM's mission to serve the needs of rural and regional communities and offer affordable, renowned veterinary education. Through this scholarship, Aurora and SVM hope to impact students' lives that will, in turn, make a lasting difference within the veterinary sector.
“The costs associated with pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine can be daunting,” said Matthew Klotz, DVM, equine technical service veterinarian at Aurora Pharmaceutical, also in the release. “I am thrilled that Aurora has made the decision to support this group of students who are embarking in this program.”
Applications for the scholarship are being accepted now through January 14, 2022.
