Monheim, Germany

-- The European Commission approved two novel veterinary products including a fluoroquinolone antibiotic and parasiticide from Bayer Animal Health.

While the approval is for certain European countries, Veraflox® (pradofloxacin) is first veterinary fluoroquinolone from the company in more than 20 years, Bayer reports.

VeraFlox is described as the first next-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic for the treatment of bacterial infections in dogs and cats. It has been approved in 30 European Union (EU) countries and will be available to those markets soon, Bayer says.

The other product, Procox®, is dubbed the first parasiticide of its kind for the combination treatment of roundworm and coccidia gastrointestinal parasitic infections in dogs, including puppies of at least 2 weeks of age and weighing at least 0.4 kg.

This product was approved in 27 EU countries and is scheduled to hit the market this fall.
