Shawnee Mission, Kan. — Bayer Animal Health entered an employer partnership with UpLink, which is described as a community hub connecting area companies with teachers and students who want to further their skills and knowledge in math, engineering, technology and science.
"Encouraging education opportunities for students within our communities has long been part of Bayer's corporate philosophy," says Joerg Oehle, president and general manager of Bayer Healthcare LLC's Animal Health Division, North America.
"Like we've done with the national science-education initiative, Making Science Make Sense, we will work with local schools to excite students and teachers about math and science-related fields."
Funded through a $5.4 million, three-year grant, UpLink is implemented by YouthFriends, which specializes in school-based mentoring and volunteerism.
Bayer pledged support to three core components of UpLink, including YouthFriends, LaunchPad and TeacherTech.
