Taking the BizQuiz? This is the answer to question 4 of "Can you temper team conflict?"

4) B-Wrong.

Emergencies happen, and good teams work around them, occassionaly juggling schedules and duties to accommodate them. But even when team members have good reasons for tardiness or missed deadlines, accepting excuses opens the door for bigger problems.

If team members are regularly late and regularly don't finish their duties, it might be time to involve management. A supervisor needs to know that tardiness and missed deadlines are affecting-or could soon affect-the entire team. The manager should take the opportunity to talk to the entire team about timeliness. Some managers ask everyone to sign a "commitment to punctuality" and make sure policies of timeliness are spelled out in the employee manual. This way, every team member knows the rules about shifts and shift work and the repercussions for failing to follow them.
