Andi Flory, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology), gives an overview of liquid biopsy testing and when to use it
In a dvm360 interview, Andi Flory, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology), co-founder and chief medical officer of PetDx, described OncoK9, a multi-cancer early detection test for dogs done with a simple blood draw. Developed by PetDx, Flory explains how it works and how it can be used for veterinary patients.
The following is a partial transcript of the video.
Andi Flory, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology): We developed a test called OncoK9. This is a test that uses advanced technology called next generation sequencing and it's looking for tumor DNA. So, it's looking for little bits of DNA that circulate in the blood, and they're coming from cancer cells. And we can tell that these are coming from cancer cells, because these little bits of DNA have mutations in them. So, they have these genomic alterations. And that's how we know that they're unique, and they're different. So, this can alert us to the presence of cancer in the body.
