Armonk, N.Y. - 8/17/07 - BrightHeart Veterinary Centers has signed on as a supporting sponsor for The Tower of Hope, a charity foundation that aids people who suffer from disabilities, abusive relationships or chronic illnesses through the use and assistance of pets.
Sponsorship funds will enable The Tower of Hope to train additional service animals for placement with individuals who can benefit from their help and companionship. BrightHeart, a nationwide network of advanced-care veterinary facilities, will also provide veterinary services for all the organization's animals.
The charity's first service dog, 2-year-old black Labrador Retriever Nolls, was placed earlier this summer with Army Specialist Joe Keck, who lost his left arm while serving in Afghanistan.
"Studies have shown that service animals can help with everything from self-esteem to independent living. Due to a pervasive lack of funding, there are many people who could benefit by having a service animal, but do not have access to one," says Cathy Carilli, Tower of Hope founder. "Our mission at The Tower of Hope is to popularize this type of aid and ensure that no one has to go through a difficult time alone. We also strive to educate, advocate and promote the benefits of the relationship between humans and service animals."
