Alan Robinson, BVSc, MRCVS, DMS, director of VetDynamics UK Ltd, explains that building resilience is a key skill that current and aspiring veterinarians need to be thinking about. Within the first three to five years of practice, he says there is massive burnout, which causes many veterinarians to leave the profession.
Resilience is hard to define, but as Dr. Robinson explains, it’s the ability to bounce back. It’s when you experience some sense of failure early on, but learn how to deal with it and push forward. There are two parts to building this skill: personal resilience and professional resilience.
