Sacramento, Calif.
-- This is the last week veterinarians in California will be able to mail or fax Controlled Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES) reports to the state.
Veterinarians, as well as pharmacists, physicians, dentists and other controlled-substance prescribers, now will be required to use an upgraded prescription drug-monitoring system put in place by the state.
The new requirement, effective Nov. 1, mandates that all prescription records pertaining to controlled substances be submitted through an online system, which will give veterinarians real-time access to a patient’s prescription history.
More information can be found in the member section of the California Veterinary Medical Association’s Web site. Click here to access the new online reporting application.
