Guelph, Ontario
- The University of Guelph has received a $5 million, 10-year promise of financial support from Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. for the Ontario Veterinary College's (OVC) health center.
The Hill's Pet Nutrition Primary Healthcare Centre will provide hands-on educational experiences for veterinary students and is supported by the Ontario government, according to the university. In February, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities invested $9.5 million in the facility and the veterinary college's redevelopment as a whole.
OVC Dean Elizabeth Stone says the major focus of the center is building on innovation and emerging technologies and procedures, and nurturing the career development of OVC students. During the four years of their veterinary program, OVC students will be able to log up to 300 hours of hands-on work at the center and see about 200 cases each.
