Cargill recalls goat feed
Cargill Animal Nutrition recalled a limited number of Nutrena Nature-Wise Goat Pellets due to an error in labeling, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
ROCKVILLE, MD. — Cargill Animal Nutrition recalled a limited number of Nutrena Nature Wise Goat Pellets due to an error in labeling, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The bags of affected product should have indicated that the feed included decoquinate, a medicated article for the prevention of coccidiossis that is commonly included in ruminant feed but which is not approved for lactating goats, says the FDA.
The goat pellets were manufactured at Cargill's Montgomery, Ala., facility on Dec. 31, 2011, and Feb. 18-25, 2012. Products were distributed in five states—Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and North Carolina. Only lot numbers 1MG1365, 3MG2049 and 1MG2056 are affected.
Cargill implemented the recall as a precautionary procedure, the FDA notes, and no illnesses have been reported. Consumers have been instructed to return the listed products to their place of purchase for a full refund or replacement.
