Congratulations on successfully managing this case! Remember that when presented with a patient with suspected urinary tract disease, trying to discover the exact nature of the signs (e.g. pollakiuria, PU/PD, hematuria, stranguria) will help guide your list of differentials and choice of diagnostic tests.
A urine culture and sensitivity profile will help confirm the presence of an infection and aid in appropriate antibiotic choices. Duration of therapy, however, will depend on whether you are treating an uncomplicated UTI or whether your patient has any concurrent medical problems or resistant infections.
