Good idea! Hetastarch is a synthetic colloid with a higher molecular weight and higher colloid osmotic pressure than albumin so it will provide oncotic support with less volume. The dose is 10 to 20 ml/kg/day given as a constant rate infusion.
**Remember that this is only a stopgap measure, however, and will only buy time to control her effusion while you investigate her underlying problem.
