Cat Friendly Certificate program celebrates a milestone
The AAFP program offers education for individuals in 3 areas of a veterinary career

The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) has awarded 10,000 Cat Friendly Certificates since the program’s inception in 2020. In announcing the milestone, the organization noted that more than 15,000 veterinary professionals have been drawn to the certificate program, driven by their commitment to elevating feline medicine.1
Heather O’Steen, CAE, AAFP’s CEO, noted that the organization is “thrilled to witness the monumental achievement” of the program’s success with veterinary professionals obtaining a Cat Friendly Certificate. “This milestone not only reflects their unwavering commitment to feline wellbeing, but also embodies the core mission of the AAFP to elevate the standard of care for cats,” O’Steen said in an organizational release.1
The Cat Friendly Certificate Program aims to build the knowledge, skills, and best in-clinic practices for caring for cats and is tailored to the individual roles within a practice, according to the AAFP. The Program is designed to provide a comprehensive education for exceptional care for cats for all veterinary careers through 3 certificate options: Cat Friendly Veterinarian (CFV), Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional (CFVP), and Cat Friendly Veterinary Advocate (CFVA). All courses in the program are available in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, providing access to a global audience.1
The Cat Friendly Certificate Program has earned multiple recognitions from the animal care industry including both the 2021 ASAE Gold Circle Award and the 2021 Best in Business Award from Veterinary Medical Association Executives. The certificate program can also be a start for veterinary professions to earn a Cat Friendly Practice designation.1
