Colorado mandates reimbursement for animal abuse

Denver, Colo. - Anyone convicted of animal abuse in Colorado will now also have to reimburse the animal's owner for any costs of care of replacement.

DENVER, COLO. — Anyone convicted of animal abuse in Colorado will now also have to reimburse the animal's owner for any costs of care or replacement.

House Bill 1151, signed into law March 30 by the governor, requires that convicted animal abusers make restitution to any individual or agency for veterinary bills, and possibly replacement costs, if an animal is killed or injured as a result of an act of cruelty.
