Lester Crawford, DVM, Ph.D., who was the highest-ranking veterinarian serving in public office, has resigned as commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. The U.S. Senate confirmed Crawford on July 18. Before then, he was acting commissioner. President Bush appointed Andrew von Eschenbach, director of the National Cancer Institute, as interim director.
