The Oregon Humane Society Community Veterinary Hospital in Portland, Oregon, and Boulevard Veterinary Lakeview East in Chicago, Illinois, are the 2023 grand prize winners.
The Oregon Humane Society Community Veterinary Hospital in Portland, Oregon, and Boulevard Veterinary Lakeview East in Chicago, Illinois, have been named the grand prize winners of dvm360®’s 2023 Hospital Design360® Competition. These 2 Hospital of the Year honorees represent facilities over 8000 square feet, and those under 8000 square feet. Five merit award winners were also selected.
The annual contest recognizes the most attractive, functional, and efficient animal health care facilities in the United States, with an emphasis on designing an environment for both safety and wellness of patients, clients and staff. A panel of veterinary hospital design experts evaluated the strengths and standout features of each practice that submitted an entry to select the winners, which represent veterinary practices from around the country.
The Oregon Humane Society (OHS) Community Veterinary Hospital was named the Hospital of the Year winner in the competition’s over 8000 square feet category. The nonprofit animal humane society newly constructed 2 buildings to expand its Portland campus from 1 to 3 buildings for a total of more than 23,000 square feet. One of the structures houses the Behavior Modification and Rescue Center with the other new building housing the Community Veterinary Hospital and the Animal Crimes Forensics Center. “This innovative center supports investigations for criminal cases and created a secure, science-based facility that effectively protects chain of custody evidence gathering that may be used in the prosecution of animal abuse,” the OHS noted in its application.
Boulevard Veterinary Lakeview East was named the Hospital of the Year grand prize winner in the under 8000 square feet category. This 3200 square foot general practice is owned by founder Dylan Frederickson, DVM, who noted in his application that he used insights learned from dvm360’s Hospital Design conferences to build his first veterinary hospital. “The conference was a crash course in how to build a hospital and provided invaluable lessons, tips and networking contacts,” said. Frederickson. “It taught me that anything is possible as long as you have a vision of what you want, and the right team of professionals assembled to help you.”
The 2023 Hospital Design360 Competition merit award winners are as follows:
The winning hospitals and merit award winners will be featured in the August issue of dvm360® magazine and in an upcoming series of articles at dvm360.com. The 2 grand prize winners will also be recognized at the 2023 Fetch dvm360 Conference in Kansas City, Missouri from August 25 to August 27, 2023.
