Employment outlook good for agriculture graduates

Number of agriculture-related jobs to surge in next five years.

Stressed-out agriculture students worrying about post-graduate employment can breathe a little easier thanks to a recent report by Purdue University and the USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The “Employment Opportunities for College Graduates in Food, Renewable Energy and the Environment” report estimates 54,400 new jobs in agriculture-related sectors in the next five years.

According to the report, roughly three-quarters of these jobs will be in business and science occupations. The remaining jobs are expected to fall under agriculture and forestry production, education, communication, and government services.

With 53,500 students expected to graduate each year between 2010 and 2015 from U.S. colleges of agriculture, veterinary medicine, and similar fields, the report comes as welcomed news.
