According to Nick Nelson, DVM, MBA, president of BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital, investing in your staff fosters a lasting, sustainable company and profession. In this episode of The Vet Blast Podcast, Nelson talks with Adam Christman, DVM, MBA, about the initiatives BluePearl is employing to give back to its associates, plus how investing in team members can improve patient care and introduce a variety of career pathways.
“[The] most important part of BluePearl is each and every associate and we know it’s all about investing in them so that we can build this better world for pets," explained Nelson. "Investing in them to allow for the [best] care to be provided each and every day."
He then highlighted the benefits of BluePearl's latest associate investment, CareerTrax, an electronic career pathing platform designed to build clearer career pathways for employees.
“[CareerTrax] is the first-of-its-kind…it allows our associates to level up, it provides them with additional compensation, and that continuing education necessary to have that occur," Nelson noted.
“[CareerTrax] gives associates the ability to progress in their career at the hospital level…they can come in at a level 1 technician and then they can see that throughout [their] time here, they can progress through mastering skills and…taking tests to confirm those skills have been met and then with that comes your next job title…and increased compensation,” he added.
